P.I.M.P. – How I Achieve Balance in Life

Icon_Inspiration-Category_200x200I was asked by a co-worker how I balance everything.

Owning a blog and working a full time job are just a few of the many things I do every day. There have been times in my life where I literally felt like running away from everyone and everything. I’ve had family pulling on me as well as my own aspirations and responsibilities. It was enough to drive a person to drink.

No really….I contemplated that.

BUT, I decided to fall back on some old things that have served me well. While talking to the young lady, I shared with her my simple plan for balance. And here is where I will share with you my P.I.M.P strategy.

1. Put yourself first. It is the hardest thing to do, but it has to be done. In a previous blog post, I talk about how I wore “run over” shoes and pinned up old bras. We as women often neglect ourselves because we don’t want to seem selfish. If you are taking care of everything and everyone else, who will take care of you when the stresses of life and weight of those many responsibilities throws you down? Please know that taking care of YOU is by no means a selfish act.  Dis-ease can take residence in your body and resentment in your heart. You can’t possibly think you can do everything and not recharge. Make sure you are taking time to light some candles and take a sea salt bath, read a book with the beverage of our choice or sit out in your garden if you have one. Take time to take care of you first then tend to the other stuff.

2. Intention, set it. I am one that when I set my mind to do something, I do it. I talk a lot about the law of attraction because it works. Your words don’t just create your existence, your thoughts do as well. In fact, your thoughts are vibrations that the Universe receives that give it a clue as to what you desire. So what do you want? Be clear about this and visualize it. Embrace the feelings that come with what you desire. If you desire balance, set the intention.  If you are unclear on how to set intentions, here is a good place to start.

3. Meditate. Most who know me know that I meditate. It is a great way to de-stress and to reflect. Get somewhere and quiet your mind. If you are new to meditation, here is a great beginner’s guide.

4. Prioritize. This is probably the second most important aspect of balancing your life. Know what you need to do first and when according to importance. Make lists. When you get up in the morning and have your cup of coffee, write out a “To Do” list. This will keep you on track with your daily tasks. Going to the grocery store….write out a list. It will keep you from wondering all over the store aimlessly and buying crap you don’t need. Do you have errands to run? If you have a list of where you are going and what you are doing, you will make those tasks seem a little bit simpler and less time consuming, which equals less stress.

All of these steps help me to keep a level of calm that elude most. I don’t spaz out about things that have obtainable solutions or things that are beyond my control. I simply utilize my P.I.M.P. system.

How do you maintain a sense off balance? Let me know in the comments.
